Welcome to the Foreign Language Student Residence!
There are a few things you need to know before you start your semester here at the FLSR. First and foremost, there are several important people you need to get to know who will help make your stay here as exciting and productive as possible.
Housing Staff: When you checked in, you met with the Hall Advisor or one of the Resident Assistants. They are here for you and want to get to know you. If you need their help, don't hesitate to call the RA cell phone during the office hours (the hours are posted on a little green card near the phone and can also be found here).
FLSR Office Staff: As for the language program itself,
an important person to get to know is the Program Director,
Jeannie Welch.
She oversees the entire program here at the FLSR, and any
questions or concerns you have relative to the program can
be directed to her. Another helpful person is the FLSR
secretary. Stop by her office (JFSB 3086) if you have
questions about your housing contract or if you want to apply
to live here again. You can also reach her at 422-3765 or flsr-dept@byu.edu
Bishopric: For those of you who are LDS, we have a wonderful ward here and an amazing bishopric who will become some of your best friends. If you haven't yet been interviewed by one of them, get a hold of them as soon as possible. Here at the BYU 64th Ward, sacrament meeting begins at 10:00 a.m. in the 3rd floor commons room. Sunday school is held in the target language and is followed by Priesthood and Relief Society. The complex is all one ward, along with a few members who live off-campus.
The Computer Guy: Mitch is the CSR/Computer and Video Specialist/Network Administrator here at the FLSR. He's the guy to talk to if you are having any problems with the computers, internet, TV's, VCR's, or DVD players. Please be sure to read the following information about the complex computers.
The Webmaster: Oliver is the webmaster of FLSR.org. If you have comments or suggestions for the site, or are experiencing any problems, please contact him.
Other Important Details:
Orientation: Come to orientation! It's once and only once, and you get a free cleaning inspection if all of your roommates are present. Besides that, it's vital that you go whether or not you are new to the complex. You will receive a lot of important info and will get to meet most of the people listed above.
Complex Mingle and Community Standards: Don't forget about complex mingle! As a general rule, complex mingle is held every Thursday at 9:00 p.m., with the exception of the first one of the semester which is strictly a Community Standards meeting. Complex Mingle is a great way to get to know your fellow residents and have a good time. Activities range from karaoke to yoga to dances. Also, at the beginning of every complex mingle, there is a time set apart for Community Standards. This is an opportunity for you as residents to solve problems related to the complex and to create or change guidelines to suit the needs of the community.
